Present-day English is different from the older one because nowadays it is quite popular to use idioms. “GO” which is one of the most common verbs in English, is chosen to investigate with the idioms containing it in this thesis. The study mainly focuses on studying syntactic and semantic features of “GO” idioms and the equivalents in Vietnamese so as to make crucial contributions to the field of linguistics and improve the efficiency of teaching English idioms with the verb “GO” for Vietnamese students who learn English as a foreign language, especially for those who specialize in the field of translation. This study is conducted by combining the two research approaches of both quantitative and qualitative. The descriptive and comparative methods are chosen to be the major methods. Analytical and synthetic methods are also used as supporting methods. Findings and discussions is the most important part of the research. On the basis of 110 English “GO” idioms collected by the author, 10 syntactic and 11 semantic features of English “GO” idioms are described with reference to Vietnamese equivalents. It is true that the study has been merely concerned with syntactic and semantic features of “GO” idioms with reference to the Vietnamese equivalents. There are still more aspects that should be also taken into consideration. For example, GO” as a noun and the idioms containing it should also be given great attention.
