520 ## $aThe study was carried out with the aim to analyze some ways of formation and cultural features of English euphemisms, and then to make a reference to Vietnamese euphemism. The results of this study would help foreign language learners have a better understanding of English and Vietnamese euphemisms. The descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative methods were employed in the thesis. It can be seen that English euphemism is formed in various way, but in literature, it is mainly constituted by some common ways such as slang rhythm, metaphors, circumlocution, word borrowing, and understatement. The thesis also analyzed the euphemisms of death, sex, pregnancy and childbirth taken from some famous novels to make comparison about the use of euphemism in both English and Vietnamese. Apart from theory of euphemism as well as detailed analysis of the use of euphemism, the thesis also focused on investigating the perception of euphemism among students at NAPA. The results showed that the students had poor knowledge on euphemism. With the finding mentioned above, the thesis has its significantly theoretical and practical meanings. It would also contributes to improvement of teaching and learning English.
