520 ## $aResearch purposes: The purpose of this research is to find out the similarities and differences between syntactic and semantic features of famous life sayings and quotes in English and in Vietnamese. In addition, it helps learners and translators learn English well and use them in daily communication. Methods of the study: descriptive and comparative approach to describe the syntactic and semantic features of famous life sayings in English and in Vietnamese and compare the similarities and differences between both languages Results of the study: In terms of syntactic features, both English and Vietnamese life quotes and sayings have certain similarities and differences of sentence elements and sentence patterns. In terms of semantic features, famous sayings in English usually have 9 meanings that express social and cultural characteristics while Vietnamese also mentioned 9 meanings but they are 7 in commons and 2 differences. Some implications are suggested for learning life quotes and sayings. Conclusion: This thesis has focused on studying the syntactic and semantic features of life quotes and sayings in English and in Vietnamese to find out their similarities and differences. Due to the limitation of time, research data and the limited knowledge of the author, mistakes and shortcoming are unavoidable. As a result, suggestions for a further study are given.
