520 ## $aThis thesis investigates how fear operates as a persuasive strategy in President Donald Trump’s 2025 Joint Address to Congress. It examines how language not only constructs fear but also uses it strategically to influence, justify, and sustain political authority within a formal institutional context. While previous research has widely analyzed Trump’s campaign speeches and social media communication, much less attention has been paid to how his populist rhetoric functions in official settings such as the Joint Address. This study fills that gap by explaining how fear is transformed from an emotional reaction into a deliberate rhetorical and ideological resource that reinforces leadership and shapes national identity. The research explores how linguistic, rhetorical, and ideological mechanisms interact to create and mobilize fear for persuasive purposes.
