520 ## $aThis study investigates the effectiveness of WordSift, a web-based vocabulary visualization tool, in enhancing the depth of academic vocabulary knowledge and long term retention among first-year English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students in a Vietnamese academy. While prior research has explored WordSift’s impact on general vocabulary size, limited attention has been given to its role in fostering deep academic vocabulary knowledge (forms, meanings, and use) and sustained retention in EFL contexts. The research aims to address this gap by examining how WordSift-integrated explicit vocabulary instruction compares to traditional methods in improving academic vocabulary proficiency. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 52 A2-level first-year students, randomly assigned to a control group (traditional instruction) and an experimental group (WordSift-integrated instruction) over an eight week intervention.
