520 ## $aThis thesis investigates the use of conceptual metaphors in Hillary Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on August 19, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois, with the aim of exploring how metaphorical language structures the conceptualization of key socio‑political issues such as gender equality, unity, and progress. Drawing on Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT), the study addresses a gap in linguistic research by focusing on the cognitive dimension of metaphors in a high‑stakes political speech, moving beyond traditional rhetorical analysis to examine how metaphors function as mental models that shape audience perception. Employing a qualitative methodology, the research systematically analyzes the official transcript of the speech, identifying metaphorical expressions through the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP) and mapping them to conceptual domains such as Politics as a Journey, Society as a Family, Conflict as a Battle, Freedom as Light, Politics as a Story and Gender Equality as Breaking Barriers.
