520 ## $aThis thesis investigates the English-Vietnamese translation of motion verbs in Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, drawing on Talmy’s (2000) typology of motion events and Newmark’s (1988) translation framework. A corpus of 405 motion verbs was identified and classified into manner of motion verbs, path verbs, and state-change verbs, highlighting their important role in shaping narrative movement and expressive nuance in the source text. The study then examines the translation techniques and strategies employed in the Vietnamese version translated by Le Huy Bac. The findings reveal that a range of techniques, including literal translation, modulation, transposition, descriptive translation, and idiomatic equivalents, are used in combination. Literal translation is predominantly applied to concrete motion, whereas modulation and structural adjustments are employed for metaphorical or internally oriented motion to ensure naturalness in Vietnamese.
