520 ## $aEnglish for Specific Purposes (ESP) is crucial for equipping students with the linguistic competencies required for their future careers. Acquiring ESP vocabulary poses considerable hurdles for learners, particularly at the university level. This study aims to examine the difficulties encountered by sophomore students at Hanoi Tourism College in acquiring ESP vocabulary. The study employed a mixed methods approach, integrating quantitative data from questionnaires administered to 102 students with qualitative insights obtained from semi-structured interviews with both students and teachers. The findings indicate that the primary issues are a lack of knowledge about specialist terminology, insufficient exposure to real-world sources, a failure to employ appropriate learning approaches, and the difficulty of vocabulary items in terms of form, meaning, and usage. The students' inadequate general English proficiency was identified as a significant factor.
