520 ## $aThis study investigates the impact of using word games on vocabulary retention among grade 9 students at an English centre in Hanoi through an action research methodology. Recognizing vocabulary acquisition and retention as critical yet challenging aspects of language learning, this research explores whether integrating word games into English vocabulary lessons can enhance students’ long-term retention compared to traditional methods. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study combined quantitative pre- and post-tests to measure retention outcomes with qualitative data from questionnaires and reflective journals to capture students’ attitudes and experiences. The action research cycles involved iterative planning, implementation, observation, and refinement of word game interventions based on ongoing feedback from 37 participating students and teacher-researcher observations.
